New commandN.tv Website!

January 4th, 2009

Well, we said we had a surprise for our viewers coming in the new year and here it is - a brand new commandN.tv website!

This has been a long time coming - our venerable Typepad blog having carried us as far as it could go - and we’re really looking forward to taking advantage of the new site. Not only did we want a site that better reflected the growth commandN has seen since its debut three-and-a-half years ago, we wanted a site that could better server our fantastic community of viewers without whom there would be no commandN. We’ve also got more business-related content for sponsors and other partners who have generously allowed commandN the ability to buy new equipment, try out new gear, and travel to events, and we’ll be trying to bring you more of that in 2009 and beyond.

So please bear with us as we get the kinks knocked out of the new site, tweak some content, and incorporate our back catelog. And as always, thanks for watching!

    Hi Amber, Jeff, Will, Chris

    Love the new look site, and the new Facebook login is really good, although I may have to go and update my profile pic now that it’s going to be popping up on here.

    Do you know that the ‘Donate commandN’ button isn’t active yet? Was just wondering as there was a donate button on the old site.

    Oh, one last thing, I’m finally getting round to redesigning the SearchcommandN.com site. Theirs a test version up now, just have a few more bits to sort out in the sidebars.

    Again Many Congrats on the new site and hope you all have a great 2009.

    Oh, one little thing that I didn’t notice until a posted that last comment, could you possible add a comment preview feature?

    @Live Comments - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ajax-comment-preview/

    The plugin works with WordPress.org 2.7 and is running on the SearchcommandN.com site.

    Some people only notice errors in there comments about half a second after hitting the post button. That never happens to me of course, well hardly ever.

    Thanks

  4. SteveintheUK says:

    See told you it hardly eve happened to me,

    forget to add a link to http://searchcommandn.com so there it is.

    Thanks Again.

  5. commandn says:

    @ SteveintheUK: thanks for the comment preview plug-in tip! It’s been added, no more excuses for forgetting links now! And thanks for the kudos and SearchcommandN.com!

    p.s. the Donate button should have been working by the time you posted that, perhaps it hadn’t updated for you…

    @Aaron

    Thanks for adding the Preview button, now I just have to remember to use it.

    The link from the donate button works, but when I scroll over the image it doesn’t go lighter or show any url in the Firefox status bar like the over images do.

    It’s only a minor issue, but it would be a shame if people didn’t donate due to the donate button not working like the others do.

    Good work with the site though Aaron

    Amber (my wife’s name too, and sorry for the cross-post), what’s the best way to get a category to display as a page listing like that (http://commandn.tv/category/news). Are you using a plugin? I tried creating a page template, but then I lost my sidebar and comment functions.

  8. commandn says:

    Wazneeni, are you referring to how the URL displays? If so, you’ll need to visit your permalinks area of WordPress admin and check out the WordPress codex page for permalinks.

    I used /%postname% in the Custom Structure field.

    @Aaron, Amber, Jeff

    I was just listening to Amber on net@night 82, where she talked about how hard it had become to find ‘About’ and ‘Contact’ info on some websites.

    So I thought I had better get round to sorting out the invisible header menu over at searchcommandn.com and also added a couple of contact forms via plugins that you may find useful for the commandN.tv site.

    Both of the plugins have direct links to them on the contact form at http://searchcommandn.com/contact

    One use’s Captchar, the other either a simple maths problem or a question that you can set.

    Hope you find one of them useful as I noticed that you didn’t have a direct contact form at http://commandn.tv/contact due to the amount of spam you get, but either one of the two plugins I use really help to limit the amount that I get.

    Or and Aaron, the donate button goes lighter now, but still doesn’t show any url in the Firefox status menu when I hover over it? Do you think it may be a issue with the why Paypals does its url’s?

    Take Care All

  10. commandn says:

    @SteveintheUK - cool forms! I usually use cforms with WordPress but those look even nicer.

    As for the URL in the Ffox status menu, you got it. It’s the code used for PayPal. I’ll be looking more into that when some time becomes available

  11. Aaron,

    I’m actually referring to how the “News” category is displayed across the top with the page links, between “Sponsor” and “About.”

    Thanks,
    jbh (WazNeeni via FBConnect)

  12. commandn says:

    @J Bryan - I just incorporated a CSS menu and linked to the News category. You can add any link you want, whether it’s to a page, archive (News) or external.

This show has a great and dedicated following it can go on for a long time . Others failed but this show is just gaining more momentum and stands the test of time . Reaching Ep 200 is just a mile stone in a wave that has yet to crest in a burst that has yet to rescind into a curling and majestic form that has yet to come in contact with the golden sands of a beautiful beach . Your wave will beach in due time , but has set a course of gratifying and heightened foray that has yet to peak .
