The Atlantic Internet Marketing Conference (AIM) was awesome - met so many great people.

Chris Campbell (www.bitdepth.org) did a great job shooting the segment and many thanks to all the interviewees and presenters and participants at the conference (and a raincheck interview for Mike McDerment from FreshBooks, who had a fantastic talk)!

  6. Chad Smith says:

The guy from Silver Orange has a good point about “real world” feedback being essential to a good product. However, there is no substitute for a good testing structure pre release as well as having a good base of client Beta testers to give you that feedback before you let everyone get their paws on it.

Prematurely releasing a product to the General public before you are confident that it is ready and working as designed is a sure fire way to ensure that no one will ever want to use it again. Finding mistakes and things to change should take place in the initial testing and beta phases. That’s not to say you don’t listen to the client after the GR date and make changes based on their needs…but if you have a widely released web based product, it’s a hell of a lot easier to make changes before its out there.

Also I think he was just nervous when he said “Every project is a failure at the outset”, I thin he meant that you don’t know HOW successful a project will be until you get into it. That doesn’t mean you can’t go the other way and consider every project a success before it starts…right? I’m a project manager for GE software and let me tell you, half of my job is convincing everyone how successful we will be in the end, no matter how bad it seems at times: - )

AIM looks like a great event, glad to hear it was fun!

  7. CJ-UK says:

not sure what “shiny” really means … but we subscribe to both commandN & GeekBrief & find both pretty interesting & useful, although, have to say, we take commandN quite a bit more seriously !

Florida seems quite a good idea - where we are (North West UK), it’s still quite cool - we’ve had the odd day of promise, but … not sure we believe this global warming stuff !

  8. Marc California says:

Amber is awesome she does very good job on camera and brings lates tech news on the net. keep up the good work ya’ll :)

  9. Amber says:

@CJ-UK - thank you, was trying to make a funny about my shiny face ;).
@Marc - very sweet of you! Our whole team is tight, which I think makes the show a treat!

@Chad Smith: Think you have some good points - Daniel was basically framing his presentation, which was entitled “Fail!”, so this might have come across more emphatically than otherwise :-) .

The point that I take from it (and, again, I’m totally with you on most of the points you bring up) is that you shouldn’t stop yourself from releasing something just because you haven’t gotten it “perfect”, b/c it might never be “perfect”.

I’ve known a LOT of musicians/composers who have suffered from this particular affliction, accumulating a lifetime worth of compositions/songs but never getting them down or sharing them b/c they weren’t “perfect” yet. That’s what I took away from my (longer than included in the segment) chat with Daniel :-) .

  11. Steve Pittman says:

Better late then never. Another excellent episode guys. Like seeing Florida on CommandN!
